Evelyn H. Leinaar, aged 100, passed away peacefully at home on May 13, 2018. Born May 10, 1918 in Gardner, Massachusetts, she was predeceased by her husband, Edward, her parents, Peter and Mary Helow, her brothers, John, Joseph, George and Philip, and sisters Jennie and Rosie. She is survived by her two children, Bruce Edward Leinaar (Anne), Mary Ann Rice (Joel); her sisters-in-law, Margaret Helow (George), and Mary Helow (Joseph); grandchildren, Sharon (Leinaar) Overton (Josh) and Edward (Ted) Leinaar; great grandchildren, Evelyn and Eloise Overton, and many nieces and nephews.
Evelyn’s family moved to Jacksonville when she was a teen and she attended Andrew Jackson High School. Evelyn was a devoted Catholic. She and her husband, Edward, were members of San Jose Catholic Church for many years. After moving to Baymeadows in the late 70’s, she was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church.
She was a devoted wife, mother, daughter, sister, grandmother and great-grandmother. She always put her family’s interests above her own. She was an outstanding Lebanese cook who never needed a recipe. Her primary focus in life was her family and many relatives.
The family will receive friends on Friday, May 18 from 5-6 p.m. at Hardage-Giddens Funeral Homes, 4115 Hendricks Avenue. A vigil service will begin at 6 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, May 19 at 10:30 a.m. at Holy Family Catholic Church, 9800 Baymeadows Road. Committal services and reception will follow at Oaklawn Cemetery, 4801 San Jose Blvd., Jacksonville, FL 32207.
