Eugene Henry Rammage passed away surrounded by his loved ones on February 27, 2020, at Memorial Hospital in Jacksonville, Florida. Gene would have turned 72 on his birthday in March. Even though in intense pain the last few years of his life, he considered himself to be a very blessed man, loved by his wife of nearly 42 years, his 2 sons, their wives and 5 grandchildren.
Born in New Mexico, Gene lived much of his early childhood and young adult years in the Panhandle of Texas. After high school graduation, he attended North Texas State for his undergraduate degree and the University of North Florida for his Master of Business Administration degree. Following a brief stay in Ohio, Gene moved to Florida seeking a warmer climate and the beautiful beaches that the Jacksonville coastline had to offer. A Renaissance man of sorts, Gene had his own computer firm at one point, owned numerous rental houses, and worked first for Blue Cross and later Humana. Still, he found time to write a yet-to-be published children’s book and to pursue various scientific interests.
One of his great loves was to spend time with his grandkids, chasing them around when he was in good health. When no longer active and no longer able to keep up with their pace, he entertained his grandchildren with stories and listened to them. Although he was a member of the Baptist church for most of his life, he began attending Connection Church several years ago because of the church’s vision for Arlington.
Eugene was preceded in death by his father, James Jewel Rammage, and mother, Margaret Wheeler Rammage, and a younger sister, Winnie Rammage Hagenah.
His surviving siblings include: James Albert Rammage (wife Mary Ann), Beth Phillips (husband Jim) and Joe Rammage (wife Jenna Beth) and T.V. Hagenah, the husband of Winnie Hagenah.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to a ministry in the Arlington area at www.artistconnectiontheatre.org.
Hardage-Giddens Chapel Hills Funeral Home is serving the family.
