Ed was born in Atlanta, GA weighing 20oz and was not expected to survive. Instead he lived for 90 years! By the age of four he had all the illnesses you could have once, he had twice! In 1934 the family moved to Jacksonville because of his health. He attended Arlington Elementary and Landon Junior/Senior High and graduated in 1947. He also attended the University of Florida in 1948 and was a member of the ROTC. In 1953 he met his wife Faith and they were married on March 19, 1954 at Hogan Baptist Church and celebrated 65 years together. He worked as AC mechanic/installer at Southside Ford and also did auto repair at his home garage on his own time. He then began a career in home air conditioning and heating beginning with Moore Dry Kiln, Arlington Fuel Oil and then became an Amana distributor with Florida Tractor until he started his own business, Knopf’s Heating and Air, in 1974 and retired in 2010. During this time he was a member of the North Florida Air Conditioning Contractors Association (NFACA) from 1974-2014.
He played softball on the Hogan Baptist Church men’s league and was an avid bowler for many years. He enjoyed fishing whenever he could. He was a member of the Lions Club 1967-2010. As a Lion he served as Zone Chairman, Director, Lion Tamer, Tail Twister, Treasurer, Vice President and President. In 1979 he started the family gospel group, The Knopf Family Singers until 1981. His faith in God was a huge part of his life. He was raised in the Baptist church and served the Lord and the church all of his life. He was a very giving and generous person, always willing to lend a helping hand and he loved his church family very much.
Ed is predeceased by his father, Edward Lawrence Knopf, Sr.; mother, Mildred Lee Knopf and his wife, Faith Fullwood Knopf. He is survived by his sister, Carolyn Graham; daughters, Lora Knopf and Amy Knopf; son, Rennie Knopf (Pamela) all of Jacksonville, FL; 2 Grandchildren, Stephanie Johnson (Brandon) of Jacksonville, FL; Adam Knopf (Lindsey) of Charlotte, NC; and has 5 Great Grandchildren.
