.Doris Elizabeth Wyant Prugh, 87, died 11/20,2010, after a brief struggle with cancer and pneumonia. From a small Steubenville Ohio family, she was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 63 years, James A. Prugh, on November 29, 2006, and her only brother, Duane B. Wyant, in January of 1981. She had two children, Wendy Lee Hunter of Yulee, Florida, and James A Prugh of Fernandina Beach, Florida. James’ wife, Cheryl Uphoff Prugh was always considered by Doris to be her third child. Her one sister, Nancy Phillips and brother in law William Phillips of Leesburg, Florida and a number of nephews and nieces survive her. She is also survived by her three grandchildren, Jamie (Prugh) Wallace, Jodie (Prugh) Potter, and Tamie (Prugh) Chatterton and their husbands Gary Wallace, David Potter and Wendy’s husband Robert Hunter. She had five great grandchildren; Taylor Chatterton, Kyle Chatterton, Cheryl Elizabeth Potter, Zachary Wallace and Andrew Wallace. Her 104-year-old mother in law, Frieda Prugh, lives in Cleveland, Ohio.
Doris and Jim were married in 1943 and after World War II, lived most of their early lives together in Indiana and Ohio, and the bulk of their married lives in Michigan, New York, and the last 25 years in Eustis, Florida. She and her beloved husband, Jim, enjoyed boating, fishing and playing golf together. Doris was an avid bridge player and lover of animals and all wildlife. Most importantly, she loved her family.
The family wishes to give special thanks to the nurses and staff who attended to Doris at Memorial Hospital Jacksonville, Community Hospice at the Gaston J. Acosta-Rua Center for Caring, and the Atrium of Jacksonville, for their care and kindness.
A private family service was held at the Harnage Giddens Chapel Hills Funeral Home in Jacksonville, Florida. Burial will be at the Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell Florida.
