Dang Khoa "Anthony/Ba" Nguyen passed away peacefully on Grandparents Day, Sunday, July 25, 2021, at the age of 102, in the home of his immediate family in Atlanta, Georgia. His ongoing battle with numerous medical issues over the years (four aneurysms, bleeding ulcers) and recent months (bladder cancer, dementia) demonstrated his courage to face life challenges with serenity and faith.
As a young man from Vietnam with four brothers and sisters, Khoa proclaimed his goal to become a Catholic priest and was in a seminary until prearranged marriage with his wife of 43 years, Minh Lien Nguyen. Together they had one child. They lived together in Jacksonville, Florida, for much of their married life from 1975 until his spouse's passing in 2005. He then lived with his daughter's family in Vermont, Massachusetts, and Georgia. He retired from Winn-Dixie Stores' headquarters after 15 years of service.
Anthony was a quiet, gentle, patient, humble, and peaceful man who always carried a joyful smile. He was known to have a "green thumb" with his garden full of flowers, fruits, herbs, and vegetables, and also for saying three rosaries a day. He loved eating shrimp, playing Dominos, Blackjack 21, watching Wheel of Fortune, Jeopardy, and shoveling snow. He is survived by his loving daughter, Minh Nguyet "Moonlight/Suzie/Minuet" Nguyen, generous son-in-law, Dean J. Fusto, and his kind granddaughter, Angelina "Angie" MinhTam Fusto.
Ba will be honored in a series of ceremonies, including a Rosary and Visitation on Tuesday, August 3, 2021, at 4:30 p.m. at Hardage-Giddens Riverside Funeral Home & Riverside Memorial Park, 7242 Normandy Boulevard, Jacksonville, Florida 32205. A church mass on Wednesday, August 4, 2021, at noon, at St. Paul Catholic Church, 2609 Park Street, Jacksonville, Florida 32204, and a funeral burial afterward back at Riverside Memorial Park. Anyone is welcome. We would love to see you!
