Dale went home to the Lord on December 12, 2016 after a short illness, at the age of 82. He was born in Steubenville, Ohio and as a young child he resided in Shinnston, W. VA where he lived with his parents, and was raised on a farm with his grandparents. He attended Lumberport high school and graduated as an honor student in 1952. He was awarded a football scholarship to the University of West Virginia but chose to make the United States Navy his career. He entered the service in June of 1952 and retired in October 1977 as a full lieutenant. He achieved many commendations during his 25 years. During that era of his life, he met his wife, Ellie, they married on April 27, 1957 and had 59 years of a beautiful life together, always putting God first. They attended Englewood Christian Church for more than 20 years and Dale was a very active member, teaching or substituting Bible classes, and served as an elder.
Surviving is his wife, Ellie; daughter, Kelly and her husband Jay; son, Thomas; sister, Sara and her husband John; brother, Jim and his wife Connie; granddaughters, Melissa, Jennifer, Kristina; 12 great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Dale’s family was the love of his life, after God. He was a fisherman and an avid bowler at JAX Lanes. He was respected and loved by all who knew him.
A memorial service with full military honors will be held on Thursday, December 22, 2016 at 11:00am at the Englewood Christian Church with Rev. Ken Gemeinhart officiating. A private interment will be in Jacksonville National Cemetery.
