Charles Andrew Hinson, Sr., 81, went to his heavenly home on Monday, October 17, 2016. Charles was born in Columbia, South Carolina on January 3, 1935. After graduating from the University of South Carolina with a degree in Education, Charles joined the Air National Guard as a Radar Technician. In 1963 he received a Master of Religious Education from the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary.
At the Seminary, Charles met the love of his life, Shirley Grisette. They were married on July 27, 1963. Charles served churches as Minister of Education in Columbia, South Carolina; Statesboro, Georgia; Charleston and Spartanburg, South Carolina; and Jacksonville, Florida. In 1979, Charles received a Master in Arts in Counseling from UNF and later helped start the Center for Christian Counseling. His counseling services continued into his retirement years.
Charles will be joining his parents, Dalton and Annie Hinson; brother, Dalton "Whitey"; sisters, DeDot Metz and Anne Brooks; and niece, Sylvia Metz Nelson. Continuing to honor his life is his family: wife, Shirley; son, Andy Hinson and wife Lori; daughter, Susan Carlisle and husband FJ; and grandson, Aiden Carlisle. Adding to his life are his wonderful family in South Carolina, including nieces; brother-in-law, Uly Grisette and wife Teddy in North Carolina; and sister-in-law, Vivian Mull in Jacksonville, Florida. Charles has many incredible friends who have blessed his life.
Charles was a member of Deermeadows Baptist Church and especially enjoyed his Sunday school class. He loved having theological discussions with his "group". He had a fabulous sense of humor and was always excited to get together with his family and friends. Charles was easy to love as you could see in him love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control.
A service to honor Charles will be held at 11:00am on Saturday October 22, 2016 at Hardage-Giddens Oaklawn Chapel.
