Carl Franklin Major Sr., 86, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, December 11, 2024, at Community Hospice & Palliative Care in Jacksonville, Florida. Born on September 25, 1938, in Charlotte, North Carolina, he was the son of the late Carl Turner Major and Josie Elizabeth Major of McCormick, South Carolina. Carl married Nancy Sue Creswell from Plum Branch, South Carolina, on September 4, 1960. They have been married for 64 years. After a brief career with the United States Forest Service, Carl served honorably in the United States Navy for 24 years, including time in the Vietnam War theater. A devout Christian, Carl read the Bible with his wife most mornings and was known for his handyman skills at Mandarin Christian Church.
He is survived by his loving wife, Nancy Creswell Major; two daughters, Joy Kelly (Russell) and Nell Musal (Scott); two sons, Carl Major (Joy) and Todd Major (Christine); four granddaughters, Jessica Kelly (Marshall), Sarah Major, Samantha Kelly (Timothy) and Hannah Musal; four grandsons, Austin Major (Lucy), Maxwell Major (Peyton), Andrew Major, and Turner Musal; and great-grandchild Miles Thomas Major.
A service was held at Fruit Cove Baptist Church on Saturday, December 14, 2024. An internment military service will be conducted at the Jacksonville National Cemetery in January, at a time to be determined. Carl will be remembered for his dedication to his country, his faith, and his family. His ability to fix anything and his service to his church community left a lasting impact on all who knew him.
