Betty Moon Hodges went to be with Jesus on February 28, 2015 at the age of 76. She was a lifetime resident of Jacksonville, FL. Betty was a remarkable woman whose life was filled with many health difficulties, but like Job, she never wavered in her faith in God. Betty’s life exemplified Jesus’ commands in Luke 10:27 to love God supremely and to love your neighbor as yourself. Even in her last days she was selfless in her love for her family and friends.
Betty taught Sunday School for over 40 years. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Jacksonville where she also taught the Westside Love Class for many years. She was a 1956 graduate of Paxon High School, a certified Toastmaster, a talented florist, a leader in the Westside Business Association, and an office manager at Edna's Beauty Salon where she also ran her gift shop. The residents, caregivers, and staff of St. Catherine Laboure Manor, where she resided for over 2 years, enjoyed her sense of humor and compassion. Her greatest joy as a resident was providing sweet treats to the nursing staff. Betty was predeceased by her husband Havard E. Hodges, her firstborn son Gary E. Hodges, her parents James and Bessie Moon, her brother James H. Moon, and great granddaughter Maci Hodges. She is survived by two sons Keith H. (Betsy) Hodges and Thomas P. Hodges, 10 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren, her sister Linda Moon (John) Gregory, 3 nephews, and her two beloved dogs, Charley and Kate. Visitation will be held on Thursday, March 5, 2015 at 9:00 am and the memorial service will be at 10:00 am at the First Baptist Church, 124 W Ashley Street, Jacksonville, FL. Interment will follow at Riverside Memorial Park Cemetery, 7242 Normandy Blvd. Jacksonville, FL 32205. (904) 781-9262. Arrangements by Hardage Giddens Town and Country Funeral Home. www.townandcountryfuneralhome.com. The family wishes to express sincere appreciation to her many faithful friends who supported her throughout her illness as well as the caring nursing and administrative staff at St. Catherine’s Laboure Manor. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to missionaries Jody and Terry Colson, P.O. Box 819, Chuuk, FM 96942.
