A native of Jacksonville, Bert attended the University of Florida where he was a member of Phi Kappa Tau fraternity. Here he majored in accounting, receiving his BS/BA in 1966. Immediately upon graduation from UF, he enlisted in officer candidate school and served as a Lieutenant in the US Army during the Vietnam War. Upon his release from active duty in 1969, Bert returned to Jacksonville, received an MBA from the University of North Florida and began a forty one year career as a Certified Public Accountant. He was a practicing CPA with memberships in the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, the Florida Institute of Certified Public Accountants and President of Ralston and Co, CPA until his retirement. Bert was involved in civic organizations including Jacksonville Jaycees, Toastmasters, and the Rotary Club. A longtime supportive member of Deerwood Country Club, Bert loved golf and fishing. He was an avid fan of the Florida Gators and Jacksonville Jaguars.
Bert was born November 4, 1944 to Martha Jane and Bert Jesse Pittman, Sr. He is survived by his wife of fifty years, Jeanne "Rus" Pittman; by his daughter Elisa Grier Pittman of Washington, DC; his son Bret Jason Pittman (Aja) of Bethesda, MD; grandchildren Blaise, Vela, and Nina Pittman; nephews John (Judy) and Steve (Dotty) Rowan. He was predeceased by his parents and half-brother William Marvin Rowan.
