He was a Vietnam Veteran and served 20 years in the Navy. After retirement, he completed a 25-year career with the Duval County School Board as a HVAC technician. Bert loved his family and always put them first. He was quiet and reserved except when it came to his family. He loved talking about his seven grandchildren.
He was predeceased by his mother and father, sister; Ann Nelson, brother; Robert Nelson, and his only son, Bert “Christopher” Nelson in 1988. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Emma Ludine Nelson and three daughters: Kimberly Anderson, Pamela Turbeville (Tom) and Tamela Johnson (Steve) and 7 grandchildren: Brandy Wade, Paul Wade, Caleb Johnson, Thomas Turbeville, Connor Johnson, Parker Turbeville and Robert Johnson. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
A visitation for Bert will be held Tuesday, June 14, 2022 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Hardage-Giddens Chapel Hills Funeral Home, 850 St Johns Bluff Road North, Jacksonville, FL 32225. A funeral service will occur Tuesday, June 14, 2022 at 11:00 AM, 850 St Johns Bluff Road North, Jacksonville, FL 32225. A committal service will occur Tuesday, June 14, 2022 immediately following the service in Chapel Hills Memory Gardens, 850 St Johns Bluff Road North, Jacksonville, FL 32225.
