Barry James Bruno

Barry James Bruno, 79 of Jacksonville Florida died on Wednesday, February 18 at Community Hospice, surrounded by his devoted wife, Katherine, and his loving family. Barry was born June 8, 1935 in Bronx, NY and grew up in Brooklyn, NY. He was the son of James and Josephine Bruno and he had one sister, Jacqueline Burnett, all of whom predeceased him. He leaves his loving wife of 62 years Katherine Bruno. He leaves behind four daughters, Susan and her husband John (Tommy) Herron, Karen and her husband Ed Dlugasz, Lynne and her husband Norman Ellis, and Kathy and her husband Kevin Anderson. Additionally, he leaves eight grandchildren, John and his wife Jessi Herron, Jason Herron, Jeff and his wife Johanna Herron, Barry and his wife Elizabeth Dlugasz, Timothy (TJ) and his wife Christina Dlugasz, Katrina Ellis, and Matthew Anderson. He was predeceased by granddaughter Felicia Dlugasz. Further he was blessed with eight great grandchildren Jethro, Jazlyn, Althea, Kelsie, Aliza, Tommy, Elijiah, and Ana. He was the store manager at Hart, Schaffner and Marx/Wallachs, a men’s clothing store, retiring after 40 years of dedicated service. He loved sports and had a passion for the game of golf. He got a hole in one on two separate occasions. Growing up in New York, he was a Giant’s fan but upon the creation of the Jacksonville Jaguars he became an immediate season ticket holder and enthusiast. He was an avid reader and enjoyed mysteries and crime novels. He was a member of Lakewood United Methodist Church and appreciated the friends and faith offered through the fellowship. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, February 23 at Lakewood United Methodist Church.
