Tony was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He was the son of Edith Carter. Tony trusted in the Lord and lived his life by faith.
Tony attended Luther P. Jackson High School in Dendron, Virginia. He attended Norfolk State College, Norfolk, Virginia, and graduated in 1971 with a Bachelor of Science Degree. He became a member of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. in 1970.
In 1972, he joined The Hartford in Hartford, Connecticut as a manager. After fourteen years, he left The Hartford to take several management positions at Kemper Insurance. His latest position was Agency Licensing Manager. He worked a total of thirty-four years at Kemper.
His main character trait was “love of family.” He played tennis, loved to travel, and listening to music, especially Diana Ross. He was a gentleman and a “gentle man.” He was dedicated, a problem solver, and never said a bad word about anyone. He usually greeted everyone with a smile and had a wonderful laugh. His calming, steady presence was felt by anyone who encountered him. He was one of God’s angels on Earth.
Tony is survived by his wife Sandra Wooden, of Jacksonville, FL, Son Mark Wooden of Orlando, FL, daughter Kristen Colvin (Corey) of Jacksonville, FL, Grandson Linden Colvin of Jacksonville, FL; Sisters Shirley Drew (Andrew Lee) of Surry, VA, Michelle and Sandra Carter of New Jersey. Three Aunts, Doris, Louise, and Roslyn, and one Uncle, Ed. Nephew Trenton Drew (Shannon), Great-Nephew/ Godson Brandon Drew, great-niece Briana Drew, all of Surry, VA. Sister-in-Law Gwendolyn Hockaday (Sandy) and Brother-in-Law Brehon Fulford (Edith) from Virginia. Special daughter and Son-in-Law Penny and David Punnett, and their sons Random and Sam of New York. And a host of Nieces, Nephews, and other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his mother Edith Carter.
