We are heartbroken to announce the death of our father Abraham Lincoln Nelson, age 87. He transitioned peacefully to his Heavenly Home on December 7th, 2022 after a short illness at his home in Jacksonville surrounded by his family who adored him more than anything else in this world. Just like he dealt with all his experiences in life, Daddy managed his final illness with strength and grace.
He was a native of Hilliard, Nassau County, Florida. He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 60 years Dorothy Lloyd Nelson; two infant children Maggie and Joseph; granddaughter Christina; great-grandson Eric; his parents Lucian Percy and Agnes Nettles Nelson; and brothers and sisters Mearl, Zella, Thomas, Rosa Lee, Dorothy Nell, Luchon, Lottie, Gertie, Geraldine, Spead, and Baby Girl.
He accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior in December 1958 and answered the call to preach. He was honored with a retirement celebration on September 11, 2022, after preaching and ministering for 53 years and 3 months. He wasn’t “retiring” but “looking for the harvest.” He had also worked for many years with Duval County School System in maintenance.
He is survived by daughter, Louise (Leon) Engel and grandson, Levi; daughter, Clara Mae Jones, granddaughter Bridget Thomasson, great-grandchildren, Chyanne, Taryn, and Coty, and great, great-grandchild Athena; son Abe (Lisa) Nelson, Jr., granddaughter Joanne Smith and great-grandchildren Pricilla, Emily, and Katie, granddaughter Natasha Moore and great-grandchildren Ben, Haley, Jackie, and Edward, grandson Richard Nelson and great-grandchildren Hailey & Christina; daughter, Darlene (David) Wilson, granddaughter Tina Barfield and great-grandchildren Rebbeca, Aaliyah, and Lincoln, grandson D. J. Barfield and great-grandchildren Orion and Destiny. Also, two sisters Lorine Daniell and Shirley (Larry) Brown, both of Waycross, Georgia, and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and many brothers and sisters in Christ.
A visitation will be held Tuesday, December 13, 2022 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Home Garden Baptist Church, followed by funeral service from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM, 6422 Bluebird Rd, Jacksonville, FL 32219.
