Jodi graduated from Coral Gables High School in 1952 where she played the cornet in the marching band. She attended the University of Florida and returned to Coconut Grove where she met the love of her life.
Jodi married Bob Tipton on September 5, 1956 at Plymouth Congregational Church in Coconut Grove. They left the next morning and drove to Golden, CO where they lived for a year. They returned to Coconut Grove in 1957 to start their family. After they welcomed Tudi and John they moved to Winter Park where Lori was born. They moved to Tampa where they lived for 6 years. In January 1975 they made Jacksonville Beach their home. No matter where they lived, Jodi always made their house a warm, loving home.
Jodi loved being a mom and her children meant everything to her. Their activities played a huge part in who she was. And when she started having grandchildren…well, they were her whole world. She has been dubbed the best back scratcher EVER! She never missed a game, party, graduation, or any family gathering. She played the piano beautifully and always played “Happy Birthday” anytime there was a birthday celebration. She also enjoyed singing in the choir at church, quilting, playing piano, and playing ukulele with the group she formed, The Sassy Strings. They played at various locations sharing their love of music with others. Jodi was a Girl Scout leader for 10 years reaching the hearts of many young women.
Starting in 2014, Jodi and Bob delivered flowers from Trader Joe’s to local beach schools, businesses, ALFs, churches, etc. Jodi had a servant’s heart and always put others above herself. She was also a member in good standing of both Sam’s and Costco.
Jodi was predeceased by her husband, Robert C. Tipton. She leaves behind her children Mary Philips (Clay), John Tipton (Michelle) and Lori Crunden (Jim), 11 grandchildren Chris (Erin), Jonathan (Niki), Jimmy (Sam), Trevor (Kelly), Colin, Kelly (Clayton), Zachary, Hayden, Noah, Jill, and Luke. She had 14 (15th on the way) great-grandchildren and one great, great grandchild with another on the way. Gigi was a huge part of ALL their lives. She also leaves behind her niece, Debbye (Steve) Prager and a nephew, Duane (Maria) Keller who was very dear to her heart.
Jodi was a remarkable wife, mother, sister, aunt, daughter and a true friend to everyone she met. She lived her life in a way that set an example for all of us. She gave of herself, unconditionally, without ever compromising her principles, her dignity, or her moral code. Those of us left behind to mourn her loss, celebrate her life and give thanks for having her in our lives. Jesus was her Lord and Savior and she quietly walked out her faith. She shared God's love daily through her generous acts of service. She was truly an inspiration and will be so missed by all that knew her. Jodi’s family is overjoyed that she has been reunited with the love of her life!
Her family would like to recognize the Windsor San Pablo family for their exemplary care of not only Gigi but all of the residents who live there. They really treat everyone like family.
