With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Joseph Peter Gambert, 66, a devoted husband, father, brother, and friend. Joseph left this world on November 12, 2024, surrounded by love. Born on February 12, 1958, in Key West, Florida, he was the cherished son of Anthony N. and Mary (Spark) Gambert.
For 23 distinguished years, Joseph proudly served our nation in the United States Marine Corps, rising to the rank of Master Gunnery Sergeant. His unwavering commitment to leadership and service left an indelible mark on those who knew him. He continued to dedicate himself to serving others as his dedication extended as he pursued academic excellence and inspired those around him to strive for their best.
Following his military service, Joseph transitioned to an Ordinance Logistics Management Specialist role with the Mobile Fleet Support Team (MFST). In this position, he further exemplified his dedication to serving others, ensuring the operational readiness and logistical support of the fleet.
Above all, Joseph’s greatest joy was his family. He is survived by his beloved wife of 45 years, Jo-Anne Gambert. He leaves behind his son, Landon Anthony Gambert, and his daughter, Shannon Marie Pittsinger, lovingly known as Shannon (JJ). He was a proud grandfather to Shannon’s two children, Racer and Gia. Joseph also shared a close bond with his brothers, Bill (Susan) Gambert and John (Debbi) Gambert, whose camaraderie he deeply cherished.
An unwavering follower of Jesus Christ, Joseph lived his faith through action. He found profound purpose in prison ministry, where he shared compassion, hope, and the message of Christ with countless individuals. His enthusiasm for life was contagious, whether surfing ocean waves, restoring cars, fishing with friends, or swimming in the sea that brought him peace.
We invite you to celebrate Joseph’s extraordinary life on Friday, December 6th, 2024, at 10:00 AM at Monument Point Fellowship Church in Jacksonville, Florida. A reception will follow the service. At 1:30 PM, Joseph will be laid to rest with full military honors at Jacksonville National Cemetery.
