Jeffrey Austin Berry, 54, passed away suddenly on March 6, 2015. He was born October 5, 1960 in Washington, D.C., the youngest of three children of the late Elmo and Eloise Berry. He grew up in Rockville and lived in Maryland most of his life. He moved to Jacksonville, Fla., in 2005. Jeff was an accomplished builder and took great pride in his work in the construction profession for more than 35 years. One of his proudest accomplishments was building the Amelia Resort in Fernandina Beach, Fla., knowing that his daughter Kylie would see that building every day and think of him.
He was a licensed Florida general contractor and project manager for residential, commercial, hospitality, health and memory care, student housing and multi-family construction. Over the last 10 years he travelled around the country for the most prestigious construction companies in Jacksonville.
Early in his career he owned his own business and built high end single family homes throughout Maryland. He later lived in Columbia, S.C., where he excelled at selling real estate. He had a big heart and love for his family, nothing was more important to him. He enjoyed spending time with his family and playing with his dogs Rocky, Buddy and Lana. His love of adventure took him to many places including skiing in Killington, Vt., surfing in the Outer Banks, scuba diving in the Caribbean, and his favorite -- boating and fishing on the Chesapeake Bay.
Jeff will forever be remembered by his beloved wife Mary, daughters Kylie, Danielle, and Alyson, and son-in-law Scott Wolfert; loving sisters and brothers-in-law Jackie and Sumner Miller, and Barbara and Charles Nitsios; and his treasured nieces and nephews Carrie and Daniel Beren, Erin Durbin, Sumner and Preston Miller, Marcus and Anastasia Nitsios; and cousins Billy, Laura, Christopher and Andrew George, Steve and Marian George, Sarah and Matt McHugh, and Rebecca and Olin McKinney.
He leaves behind his dear sisters and brothers-in-law Gail and John Tibbetts, Laurie and James Stevens, Donna and Mark Stevens, Tammy and Brian Stevens, Penny and Jeff Stevens, and Mary and Chris Stevens; and nieces and nephews Julie, Jason, David, Beccy, Chrissy, Nikki, Amanda, Grayson, Kayla, Molly, Angela, Douglas, J.J., Christopher, Jessica, Tim, Logan, Levi, Trisha, Kim, Jenny, Cheryl, Jennifer, Keith, Camilynn, Frances, Hannah, James, Betelihem, Berhanu, Emily, Tim, Meghan, Parker, Arianna, Kiersten and Ashley.
He also leaves behind his mother-in-law Luella Stevens of Englewood, Fla., and former wife Lisa Berry of Jacksonville Beach, Fla. He especially enjoyed the company of friends Mike Lash, Travis McCall, Robert Johnson, Attila Kungl and Chris Thomason.
A celebration of Jeff’s life will be held on Sunday, March 15 at 10 a.m. at Beaches Chapel by Hardage-Giddens, 1701 Beach Blvd., Jacksonville Beach, Fla. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Chesapeake Bay Foundation.
