George Floyd Hughes Jr., 88, devoted husband of 50 years to Marcella Harrison Hughes left this world on October 13, 2024 to join his wife and ultimately be with Jesus. Floyd was born in Bamberg, South Carolina on February 26, 1936, son of the late George & Annie Wilson Hughes. Floyd graduated from Clemson University with a degree in Engineering.
He lived and worked in Frankfort Kentucky for 30 years where he was employed by the State of Kentucky, Department of Environmental Analysis as a Civil Engineer. He was an avid fisherman and a longtime member of Bassmaster's. He also enjoyed playing in the golf league every summer.
After retiring, Floyd and Marcella moved to Jacksonville Florida where they lived together for more than 25 years. They were members of Jacksonville Golf & Country Club and enjoyed playing Bridge with many of their friends at JGCC.
Floyd is survived by his sons, Jeffrey S. Hughes of Jacksonville, Florida, Carlton D. (Leslie) Wininger of Racine, WI, B. Kent (Tracy) Wininger of Columbus, OH; daughter, Kristi W. (Gordon) Lunceford of Richmond, KY; grandchildren, Malcolm Kent Lunceford, Matthew Wininger, Grant Wininger, Carson Dunn, and Bethany Lunceford; a brother Roger Hughes of Bamberg, SC; as well as several nieces and nephews.
