Barry Wayne Starnes, 78, of Jacksonville, FL, passed away on Monday, November 4, 2019. Barry was born November 27, 1940 to Clayton and Ruth Starnes in Lancaster, South Carolina.
Barry, a proud Marine of the Vietnam era and retired Navy Reservist, was a long-time volunteer at the Mayo Clinic with almost 9000 hours service in spite of mobility issues. He was well liked for his sense of humor and outgoing nature as well as his love of great spy-mystery novels. He never met a stranger and thoroughly enjoyed what he did. He was always grateful and appreciated his blessings. He was especially thankful for his daughter-in-law, Melissa Cooper-Starnes, who helped him and Claire for several years in so many ways.
Barry is survived by his wife, Claire, his sons Douglas (sp. Melissa) and Edmund (sp. Misty), six grandchildren, two sisters, and a wide-spread group of family and friends that will sorely miss him going forward.
Barry will be laid to rest at the Jacksonville National Cemetery, with full honors, at a future date. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting donations be made to a Veterans' organization or to the Mayo Clinic.
