1968-2022
Angela Kay Wetzel, of Jacksonville, Fla., went to be with our Lord on June 17, 2022 at her home after bravely battling cancer for several years. She was surrounded by the family she dearly loved.
She was born Angela Christensen on July 25, 1968 in Streator, Ill., to Jerry and Ada (Klopfenstein) Christensen.
After meeting in 1986, she married Jerry Wetzel, of Jacksonville, Fla., on June 9, 2001. Her parents and husband survive as well as their four children, Heather (David Attig) Celis of Gridley, Ill., Kelsie (Bryce Johnstone) Celis of Jacksonville, Fla., Heather (Zachary Wade) Clark of Normal, Ill., and Nathan Wetzel of Jacksonville, Fla., and five grandchildren: Jett and Harper Burns, Bellamy Attig, and Madeline and Sapphire Wade.
Also surviving are two younger brothers: Drake (Laura Casey) Christensen of Mundelein, Ill. and Jason (Janice) Christensen of Downers Grove, Ill., as well as four nephews Zac, Noah, Miles and Owen and niece Grace.
Angela graduated from Minonk-Dana-Rutland high school in 1986. She earned a degree in Journalism from Illinois State University in 1999. She lived for years in Gridley and Normal, Ill., before realizing her dream of moving to Florida in 2013. She worked at State Farm for 27 years in Systems, Public Affairs, Marketing and SFPP before retiring in 2019.
She was active at Chet’s Creek Church – Hodges Campus in Jacksonville, loved spending time on the water and at the beach, and was a creative crafter and writer. Her biggest love was her family, especially her children and grandchildren.
Angela is a cherished friend to many and will be missed terribly and remembered always for her strength, laughter, and kindness. She made those around her feel special and put others first. Angela taught us to live the life you want today and to intentionally spend time making memories with loved ones.
