Born on November 25, 1937, in Jackson, he was a beloved husband, father, and grandfather who will be remembered for his kind heart, work ethic, and dedication to his family. Bill married his sweetheart, Margie Lemons, on August 11, 1960, and together they built a life full of love and partnership that spanned over six decades. As the owner of Old Hickory Pest Control, Bill was a respected business owner who served his community with integrity and care. Beyond his professional life, he was known for his generosity, strong faith, and unwavering devotion to his family. Bill was also a member of Intercontinental Church of God.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Archie Tillman Mays and Mary Naylor Mays; his beloved grandson, Randy Thomas Barnes; and his siblings, Edwina Robley, Carolyn Mewborn, Sandra Godson, Jimmy Mays, Tillman Mays, and Gerald Mays.
Bill is survived by his wife, Margie E. Mays; his daughter, Amy Mays; and his cherished grandchildren, Leah Marie Kolton (Grayson) and Caleb Andrew Barnes. His family was the center of his world, and he took great pride in the accomplishments and lives of his grandchildren.
A service to celebrate the life of Bill Mays will be held on October 19, 2024 at 2:00 pm at First Baptist Church Bemis, 116 Bemis Lane, Jackson. The family will receive friends beginning at 1:00 pm, one hour prior to the service. The family invites friends and loved ones to join them in honoring a life well-lived.
Bill’s legacy of love, dedication, and service will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
