Thomas Duncan Thurmond, Jr.

Thomas Duncan Thurmond, Jr., born August 31, 1953 to Thomas Thurmond Sr. and Mary Lou Gray, was united in Heaven with his Lord, Jesus Christ February 29, 2024 surrounded by his family when his faith became sight, having accepted Jesus as his Savior at the age of 12.

He served faithfully as an ambassador of Christ as a deacon at Union Grove Baptist Church since 1997. He was involved in various ministries of the church including Royal Ambassadors, children, youth, music, and teaching the Senior Adult Class.

Tom retired from At&t after 43 years of service as a cable splicer and later a manager. He met the love of his life, Julie, in 1976 at South Central Bell where they were both telephone operators. Together they built a beautiful family, raising 3 children, Adam, Jessica, and Travis, in the "nurture and admonition of the Lord." The family grew in love with an addition of a son-in-law, Zack, and his favorite grandson, Lleyton.

Aside from enjoying time with family, he loved hunting, fishing, and nature walks. Tom loved so well because he loved Jesus first.

Tom will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 47 years, Julie Thurmond; 2 sons, Adam and Travis Thurmond; daughter, Jessica (Zack) Blankenship; grandson, Lleyton Blankenship; mother, Mary Lou Gray; 3 sisters, Mary Lou (Tony) Blankenship, Maragret Moyers, and Melinda Thurmond; and many nephews, nieces, and in-laws. He was proceeded in death by his father, Thomas Thurmond, Sr.; his step-father Ernest W. Gray; and brother-in-law, Gary Moyers.

In lieu of flowers, the family asked that donations be made to the student and music ministry of Union Grove Baptist Church.

A special thanks to the healthcare heroes of A4 at Jackson-Madison County General Hospital for you compassion and attentive care to Mr. Thurmond and family and many thanks to our special friends for your love and support.

The family will receive friends and loved ones beginning on Saturday, March 2, 2024 from 1:00 pm - 6:00 pm at Union Grove Baptist Church, 755 Beech Bluff Rd., Beech Bluff, TN 38313. Visitation will resume on Sunday, March 3, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. going until the time of the service at 3:00 pm, all at Union Grove Baptist Church. Burial will follow in the Union Grove Cemetery.
