The family would like to recognize the Bells Nursing Home’s nursing staff that took
care of her for close to eighteen months. They called her Sue Sue and we know
she kept them on their toes and in line.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Legal Rea and Vergie Mae Carter Rea,
brothers James Quention Rea and Floyd Rea and her husband of 42 years, Frank
Jennings Carruth, Sr.
She is survived by a sister Geraldine Stephens, Memphis, TN, and by Frank and
Sue’s three adopted children; Frank Carruth, Jr (Susan) Medina, TN, James Brent
Carruth (Shari) Jackson, TN and Joy Carruth Watkins Jackson, TN. Also, six
grandchildren, Adam and Ryan Lee, Shawn (Amanda) Czarnerki, Faythe, Ashley and
Anna Watkins.
She was raised in Gadsden, Tennessee where she attended Gadsden Elementary,
Middle and High School. She was a cheerleader, a member of the National 4-H
Club, Drama and Speech Club, FHA, and also played basketball and softball. She
graduated in 1952. After high school, she attended and graduated from Draughn's
Business College in Memphis, Tennessee.
Frank and Sue lived in Memphis and Nashville before settled down in Jackson. She
was a member of Jackson Newcomers Club. She also was a big supporter of her
husband, Frank Carruth, as one of the four founders and Founding President of Old
Hickory Academy (OHA). She was an active member of First Presbyterian Church
in Jackson, TN.Her hobbies included playing bridge, sewing, reading and was also a Master
Gardener.
Funeral Services will be conducted on Saturday September 14, 2019 at 2:00 pm at First Presbyterian Church. A Visitation with the family will be conducted on Friday September 13, 2019 from 4:00 pm - 7:00 pm at the North Chapel of George A. Smith and Sons and will resume on Saturday from 1:00 pm until the time of the service at 2:00 pm at the Church.
Sue will be laid to rest next to her beloved husband, Frank, in Ridgecrest Cemetery
in Jackson, Tennessee.
Pallbearers to serve are; Adam Lee, Ryan Lee, David Carruth, Jeff Mellencamp, Joel
McAlexander and Jody Pickins.
