They were married 61 years before her death in 2014. Robert ran his own gutter business for years locally and around Chicago, IL. He was a hard worker for the Milan Arsenal, Callengers, Piggly Wiggly Corporation, and retired from TDOT after forty years of service. He shared a great love of classic cars with his only daughter, Sherri, and only grandson, Keith.
His grandson Keith was his world and he gave him his 1978 black Ford Truck that he had bought new from the dealership when it was downtown. He was born in Jackson, TN and lived there his entire life with the exception of some summers in Chicago in the 1950's. Country music was always playing when he was around. Robert had a collection of old cars and trucks.
He was always willing to do anything for you. There are not any words to describe what he meant to his family. He was the strongest person we have ever known.
He was preceded in death by his parents, J.D. and Cora Mae Spellings; one sister, Wilma Turner; his brothers, Clyde and Bobby Spellings; and his beloved wife, Jean.
He is survived by his only child, Sherri Marbury (Ricky); his treasure, his only grandson, Keith Marbury; his sister, Brenda Dudley (Jerry); brother in law, Mickey Ellison (Chris); and his close cousins, Loyce, Joyce, and Gina Borron.
The family will receive friends and loved ones on Sunday afternoon, April 23, 2023 from 1:00 pm - 3:00 pm in the South Chapel of George A. Smith and Sons. Funeral services will follow at 3:00 pm with Bro. Jimmy Horton of Southside Baptist Church officiating. Burial will follow in Liberty Grove Cemetery.
