Born on April 11, 1943, in Jackson, she dedicated her life to her family and her home as a loving homemaker. Peggy married the love of her life, Freddie Wilson Maness, on July 29, 1966. They shared over three decades together until his untimely passing in 1998. Her life was shaped by her devotion to family and her unwavering strength, which guided her children and grandchildren through the years.
She was preceded in death by her parents, K.C. Van Cleave, Sr. and Lavonia Threadgill Van Cleave; as well as her siblings, Rual Van Cleave, Joe Van Cleave, Patti Forsythe, and K.C. Van Cleave, Jr.
Peggy is survived by her beloved children, Sharon Maness Mays (Kenneth), Keith Maness, and Pat Maness; and by the pride of her life, her grandchildren: Phillip Mays (Sarah), Steven Maness, Hayden Maness (Erica), Madison Mays Haynes (Jacob), and Nicole Maness Myers (Jordan). She also leaves behind two great-grandchildren and five step-great-grandchildren, who brought her endless joy.
A service to celebrate Peggy’s life will be held on Saturday, October 12, 2024, at 1:00 p.m. in the North Chapel of George A. Smith and Sons, with burial to follow in Ridgecrest Cemetery. The family will receive friends beginning at 11:00 a.m., two hours prior to the service, at the funeral home.
In memory of Peggy, her family invites friends and loved ones to join them in honoring a life of dedication, love, and perseverance. She will be deeply missed but always remembered for the love and legacy she leaves behind.
