Kathy DeSpain entered the world on August 10th, 1950 in Cheyenne, Wyoming. She was raised in the Texas oil fields and a graduate of Permian Highschool in Odessa, Texas. She was taught to fish by her father, an act that sparked a love for nature and travel that she passed down to her children and grandchildren. Never was a catfish more at risk than when Kathy arrived at the shore. Before she left us she nurtured and raised three children Michael (Evelyn), Eric, and Sarah(Patrick). Through the years Kathy was an advertiser, small business owner, and human resources manager. She utilized her many hats to challenge, empower, and love countless others. She had the dryest and quickest of wits and no shortage of laughter or wine could be found when she gathered with her family and friends. She lived her life bravely from the desert to beaches, never met a river or a stream that wasn't worth “checking” for biting fish, or a road that she wouldn't travel.
On October 26th, 2019 Kathy passed from this life. She was preceded in death by her father Kenneth Lee Hedrick, her brother Daniel Hedrick, her sister Susan Hedrick, and her son Eric DeSpain. She will be greatly missed and honored by her mother Eileen Carmichael, her brothers Carol (Brenda) and Cary (Mary), her son Michael and daughter in law Evelyn DeSpain, her daughter Sarah Burch and son in law Patrick, her eleven grandchildren, two great grandchildren, and her very best friend, Sandy Skinner, of Hobbs, New Mexico as well as a host of nieces and nephews.
A memorial service for Kathy will be held at George A Smith and Sons Funeral Home in Jackson, TN on November 1st, 2019 at 3 p.m. Family will receive condolences from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. in the North Chapel. Family requests donations in lieu of flowers to Dolly Partons Imagination Library.
