She was born on January 7, 1930 to William Norment Johnson and Laura Hudgings Johnson of Jackson. She graduated from Jackson High School in 1947. Upon her graduation, she attended Ward-Belmont College and the University of Tennessee at Knoxville where she was a member of the Alpha Omicron Pi Sorority. In 1953 she married William (Bill) Woodruff. After a brief detour with Bill to Hartsville, South Carolina, they made their way back to her beloved Jackson, TN. Bill preceded her in death in 2014.
She was a lifelong member of First United Methodist Church of Jackson. She was also a member of the Jackson Cotillion Club, Jackson Service League, Bal Masque, and the Mary Ann Ashby Milk Club.
Graveside services for Mary Jane will be on Tuesday, April 20, 2021 at 10 a.m. at Hollywood Cemetery with Rev. Eddie Bromley officiating. The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. -1 p.m. following the service at First United Methodist Church.
The family would like thank Avalon Hospice for their wonderful care and services over the past three months, and the wonderful care from Ruthie Pressley, family friend.
The family has asked that memorials be directed to First United Methodist Church, 200 South Church St., Jackson, TN 38301 or the charity of the donor's choice.
She had one daughter, Molly Woodruff Hymers and one granddaughter, Laura Johnson Hymers who survives her. She used to call Laura her "Ray of Sunshine"
