Mary Victoria Whitt

She was born on June 5, 1938, in Bethel Springs, TN to the late Earl Alexander and Ila Mae Smith Hipps. Mary lived a life of service to the Lord and to others. She never met a stranger and always helped others when they were in need. She loved unconditionally from the first time she met you. If you were blessed to know her, you felt her love.

Mary spent her working career in quality control at Quaker Oats. She took her job seriously and would refuse to accept products of inferior quality. Those who worked with her can tell you how tough she could be when it came to producing quality food. Mary retired to become the caretaker for her ailing son and mother. She spent the next few years caring for each of them until they passed. She truly had a servant’s heart.

Mary was also a hard worker at home. She raised four children on her own and helped raise her grandson. She lovingly provided for each of them, and they could tell you how special she was. If her fur babies could talk, they would tell you how she loved and spoiled them. They loved her and enjoyed spending their days in her lap basking in the sunlight beaming through the window.

Mary loved her home and enjoyed gardening in her many flower beds. She was especially fond of her rose bushes and flowers. Until she was no longer able to do so, Mary could be found outside as much as she could with her daughter and grandson tending to the yard, weeding her flower beds, planting even more flowers, or burning piles of leaves from the yard. She loved to sit outside in the afternoons in her swing and visit with family and friends that stopped by while her fur babies ran around the yard playing.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Kara Barnes; son, Paul Whitt; and daughter, Ruthie Bunch.

She is survived by her daughter, Judy Whitt; sons, Guy Whitt (Kay) and Steve Bunch; six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends and loved ones on Thursday, December 23, 2021, from 11 a.m. – 12 p.m. at the North Chapel of George A. Smith and Sons. The funeral service will follow at 12 p.m. officiated by David Powell and Jeff Whitt. Burial will follow in Highland Memorial Gardens.
