Joyce was born on March 8, 1940 in Jackson, TN to the late William (Slim) and Verble Graves. She graduated from Jackson High School in 1958. Following graduation she worked for a brief time in Admissions at JMCGH before attending McCollum and Ross Beauty School to pursue a career as a Beautician, which she continued for 42 years. She enjoyed her time with many clients and fellow beauticians through the years, many becoming life long friends.
Joyce was a feisty, independent red head who loved fishing, hummingbirds, the St. Louis Cardinals and watching her grandchildren and great grandchildren participate in sports. She was always their biggest fan.
Joyce (Mamaw) was a devoted and hardworking wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother who loved deeply.
She is preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, Gene Edward Jones.
She is survived by their two children: daughter, Cheryle Emison (husband Anthony) of Jackson, TN, son, Gene Michael (Mike) Jones of Jackson, TN, four grandchildren, Shelby Matthis (husband Jack) of Jackson, TN, Matt Emison (wife Jordan) of Dyersburg, TN, Haley Heidelberg (husband Bruce) of Cedar Grove, TN, Shelley Carr (husband Derek) of Milan, TN, nine precious great grand grandchildren Bryson Carr, Landry Carr, Grey Emison, Reed Kee, Tate Kee, Brady Matthis, Jack Matthis, Jackson Matthis, Jake Matthis, two siblings Billy Mac Graves and Ruth Ann Williamson, and many other family members who were very dear to her.
She was also preceded in death by a sister, Jeanette Edwards and a brother, Curtis Graves.
Active pallbearers to serve are: Derek Carr, Anthony Emison, Matt Emison, Bruce Heidelberg, Tate Kee, and Jack Matthis.
Visitation is at George A. Smith and Sons North in Jackson on Saturday, July 22nd, from 9:30 - 10:30 am with a graveside service to follow for family and friends at Highland Memorial Gardens.
