Joseph William (Bill) Dellastatious

Bill was born in Washington DC on October 2, 1922, the son of Andrew and Martha Dellastatious.

Bill attended McKinley High School in Washington, DC. He attended Clemson, Bucknell and George Washington University before becoming a Missouri Tiger. He was at the University of Missouri for 3 years where he was the running back for the Missouri Tigers football team. He was part of the 1944 All Big Six conference and played in the Cotton Bowl for Missouri in 1946. He was drafted by the Detroit Lions in 1946 but instead chose to be the assistant football coach at the University of Florida where he met the love of his life, Anne Lee. They married in 1950.

Bill went on to coach and teach at Southwest Missouri State College, the Citadel, Wake Forest University, and Salem College in West Virginia.

He loved to play golf and be active. He also loved to serve his community. He has volunteered for Habitat Humanity, Stephens Ministry at First Presbyterian Church and RIFA of Jackson. No matter which state he lived in, he was coaching and serving.

He is survived by his brother, Jack Dellastatious; his two daughters, Rosanne Dellastatious Grimball of Mount Pleasant, SC and Cynthia Dellastatious Pfaff (Clark) of Granby, CT; four grandchildren: Margaret Grimball Daniel (Brian), Andrew Sinclair Grimball, Taylor Dellastatious Pfaff (Kelsey) and Harrison Pfaff. He is also survived by one great granddaughter, Anne Frances Daniel.

The Memorial Service for Bill will be held on Monday, November 13, 2023 at 11 a.m. at First Presbyterian Church, 1573 North Highland Ave., Jackson, TN 38301.
