James Granville Turner was born at home October 14th, 1930 in the Jackson, TN to the late George and Cora Belle Turner.
Jimmy grew up in the Westover area of Madison County. He loved to go skating at the rink on Westover Road just up from his home on Lower Brownsville Road. Growing up he attended Westover Elementary, then onto Middle School from there he went onto High School at North Side. During his Middle School years, he met his loving wife Louise. After High School Jimmy and Louise decided that they wanted to be together for life and drove to Corinth, Mississippi to get married in January of 1951.
Jimmy and Louise moved from Lower Brownsville Road to Moore Road where they were blessed with their first born Shelia Ann Turner in 1953. He then built their forever home in Westover on Old Denmark Road. Where their second son Robert Tyson Turner was born in 1963 and is in heaven with our Savior. In 1967 they were blessed with their third child James Eric Turner.
During his life time Jimmy worked several jobs: He worked several years for the Illinois-Central Railroad. He also worked for Modern Plumbing Company, Consolidated Aluminum, and Tennessee State Votec School. He then started his own company in 1987 Jackson Backhoe which, he in 2005 changed the name to Jackson Backhoe and Plumbing, LLC and Co-Owned with his son James Eric Turner.
Jimmy believed in family and God for many years they attended Westover Baptist Church. He always loved helping others and his community which showed strongly in all the different ways he volunteered his time and money. Just a few ways he gave back were for over 30+ years he was scout leader of Boy Scouts Of America Troop #1 Jackson, TN. He helped build several homes for Habitat for Humanity. He was member of the Masons St. Johns Lodge 332 for 62 years. Jimmy spent several years starting in 1979 as the Captain of the Civil Defense Rescue Squad in Madison County, TN. Jimmy was a Worthy Patron order of the Eastern Star as well a member of the Shriners Organization. In 1963 he founded the PAL (People Adding Love) organization that helped provide kids with clothing year around and toys for over 2,000 children a year during Christmas.
He enjoyed many activities, such as hunting, fishing, and spending time with his family. He was a loving and giving man that would be there for you if you needed him. At the same time, he was not afraid to tell you the truth if you needed to hear it.
Jimmy leaves his loving wife of 70 years, Edna Louise Turner; his daughter Shelia Ann Cummings (Dicky) and son James Eric Turner (Kim). His sisters Janice and Elinor; Grandchildren, Tom Cummings, Michael Turner and Melissa Turner; great grandchildren Brooke Cummings Thweatt, Ruthie Turner, and Ryleigh Turner; great-great grandchildren Briley Thweatt, Kohnley Thweatt, and Finley Thweat.
He was preceded in death by his Mother, Cora Belle Turner; Father, George Turner; Brothers, George Turner ll., Gilbert Turner, Lavaughn Turner; grandson; William Cummings ll, and great grandson, Trey Cummings.

Special request from the Turner family
Jimmy loved children and was always trying to find a way to help a child in need.
A dear family friend’s granddaughter went to heaven to be with our savior just before her second birthday.
