Hubert Leroy Madison, 87, went home to be with the lord on February 27, 2011. He was born in Robinson, Kansas on April 6, 1923 to the late A.O. and Carrie Madison.
He attended school in Kansas, graduating from the Everest High School in 1941 and then from Chillicothe Business School in Chillicothe, MO in 1942, ranking in the top five in scholastic ability. He worked as a bookkeeper for John Deere Co. at Marshall, MO until he was drafted into the Navy in 1944. He was sent to the University of Colorado at Boulder for radio operator school, then to Seattle where he sailed on the U.S. Rawlins for the South Pacific. While on this mission, he received word to return to the States for Officer Training School at Princeton University, Princeton, NJ. Further education while in the Navy was obtained at Texas Christian University, Ft. Worth, TX and Tulane University, New Orleans, LA.
Hubert was honorably discharged on June 10, 1946. He was married to Anita Ruth Bomley on June23, 1946 at Everest, KS. They moved to Warrensburg, MO so Hubert could attend college at Central State College from which he graduated in 1948 with a degree in Business Administration. He was employed by John Deere Co. until 1955 when he bought the Everest Drug Store in Everest, KS. In 1963 the store was sold and the family moved to Barberton, OH with Rockwell Mfg. Co., a transfer from Atchison, KS. In 1965 he was transferred to the new Rockwell plant in Jackson, TN as the Plant Accountant. He retired from Rockwell when the plant was sold to Pentair and worked for Porter Cable until his retirement after 31 years with the two companies.
Hubert was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. He is survived by his wife of 64 years; son John Walter Madison (Debbie) of Indianapolis, IN; daughter Marianne Ferguson (Tom) of Jackson, TN; granddaughters, Halah Ciafardini (Marc) of Richardson, TX; and Diana Suzo (John) of Westfield, IN; Step-Grandson Tommy Ferguson, Jr. (Cathy) of Jackson, TN; Step-Granddaughter Shelby Jones (Mike) of Humboldt, TN; Sister-in-law Virginia Pederson of Horton, KS and five step-great grandsons. He was preceded in death by three brothers, Loyd, Delbert, Clinton and two sisters, Ruth and Grace.
He was church treasurer and elder at Bethany Christian Church for a number of years prior to becoming a member of Evangelical Community Church, where he served as a deacon and member of the missions committee. He was a life member of the V.F. W. Post #1848. He served on the Board of RIFA in the late 1980’s.
Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on March 3, 2011, at Evangelical Community Church with Rev. James Christoferson and Rev. Andy Barlow officiating. Burial will follow at Ridgecrest Cemetery. Visitation will be March 2nd from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the North Chapel of George A. Smith and Sons.
The family is eternally grateful for the loving care provided by the caregivers at Carriage House Davita, Northbrooke Nursing Home and Tennessee Quality Hospice.
