Hazel Pierce Staples was born March 11, 1937 in Pinson, TN. She graduated from Pinson High School where she was crowned Miss Pinson in 1954. She met and later married Charles B. Staples on January 26, 1958 while he was attending dental school. Hazel loved her family, friends, and was an active member of First United Methodist Church in Jackson, TN. Hazel especially loved her grandchildren and great grandchildren whom she referred to as "Mee-Maws Angels."
She was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Charles B. "Pete" Staples; daughter, Ronda Staples Stafford; parents, Willie and Janette Pierce; brothers, Frank and Jimmy Pierce; and sister, Peggy Tomes.
Hazel is survived by her children, Burt Staples (Jan), Sonja Drews, and Sherry Caforio; as well as her sister, Mona Pounds (Kerry) and brother, Travis Pierce (Sherry); and sister in law, Betty Pierce.
Her greatest joy in life was spending time with her grandchildren, Lauren Wilson (Erik), Tyler White (Ashley), Stephanie Drews (Tyler), Erica Drews (Russ), Caroline Moody (Paul), Nikkalena Caforio, and Cole Staples. Also, her great grandchildren Anna and Harris Wilson, Tyson and Delainey White, Claire and Lillie Brasfield and twins, Ellanor and Isabell Grigsby.
Hazel was the anchor for her family and will be greatly missed. Her nephews will serve as pallbearers.
The family will receive friends and loved ones on Saturday, May 15, 2021 from 11 a.m. - 1 p.m. at the North Chapel of George A. Smith and Sons. A funeral service will follow at 1 p.m. officiated by Rev. Sky McCracken, Senior Pastor of First United Methodist Church, Jackson. Entombment will follow in the mausoleum at Highland Memorial Gardens.
