Born on April 6, 1923, to James Archie Weaver and Birthel Lindsey Weaver, Georgia grew up in a family rooted in faith and hard work. She carried those values into her own life, becoming a beacon of joy and kindness to everyone she met. Known for her friendly and outgoing personality, Georgia never met a stranger. Her laughter, quick wit, and endless supply of jokes brought smiles to countless faces.
A devoted Christian, Georgia read the Bible in its entirety more than 40 times—though she stopped counting after that. She was also a member of Lighthouse Church. Her faith shaped her life, inspiring her to dedicate 25 years as a pediatric nurse at Jackson-Madison County General Hospital. Even after retirement, Georgia continued her mission of care and compassion, volunteering for another 30 years on the pediatric floor and in Patient Services. Through her work and volunteerism, she brought comfort and cheer to countless patients and families.
Georgia’s zest for life extended beyond her professional accomplishments. A self-proclaimed “fun captain,” she loved to travel with her senior group, visiting every state except one. An exceptional seamstress, she used her talents to create countless quilts, crocheted items, and gifts for others, embodying a spirit of generosity and creativity.
Georgia was preceded in death by her parents; her son, Jerry Kuykendall; her grandson, David Holder; her nine sisters—Matha Rouse, Macie Roland, Ruby Criss, Bertha Clayton, Maggie Lane, Evelyn Thurbush, Hazel Johnson, and Peggy Denny; her four brothers—Clarence Weaver, Loy Weaver, Willie Weaver, and Hooper Weaver.
She is survived by her daughter, Linda Kuykendall Johnston (Currie); her daughter-in-law, Kay Kuykendall; her brother, Elvis Weaver; and many friends who cherished her vibrant spirit.
A celebration of Georgia’s remarkable life will be held on Friday, December 6, 2024, at 12:00 noon at the North Chapel of George A. Smith and Sons, with burial to follow at Hollywood Cemetery. Rev. Cliff Walker, Sr., will officiate the service. The family will receive friends beginning at 10:00 a.m., two hours prior to the service at the funeral home.
Georgia leaves behind a legacy of love, faith, and laughter. She will be deeply missed but fondly remembered by all who were fortunate enough to know her.
