Frances Tarpley, age 93, passed away Saturday morning, September 1, 2012 at her residence after a long illness. Her service will be on Wednesday, Sept. 5 at 11 o'clock from the North Chapel of George A. Smith and Sons Funeral Home with Rev. Ron Hale officiating. The family will receive friends between the hours of 9 to 11 prior to the service. Burial will be in Browns Church Cemetery in Madison County.
Frances Christine Carlson Tarpley, daughter of Swedish immigrants Enoch Alfred and Angla Broline Carlson, was born on November 5, 1918 in Austin, Texas.
She is a graduate of Stephen F. Austin High School, Class of 1936 and attended the University of Texas from 1936-38 under an Altrusa scholarship. Frances received a BA degree in elementary education from Lambuth College in Jackson, TN and taught for many years in the Jackson-Madison County school system.
She leaves to cherish her memory, two daughters Christa R. Winslow (Ralph), Angla Hinson, and four grandsons Steven Winslow, Jeff Winslow (Jody), Mark Winslow, and William Hinson (Allie) and a host of nieces and nephews.
She preceded in death by her husband, Cecil L. Tarpley and all of her brothers and sisters. She loved the Lord and was a faithful member of West Jackson Baptist Church for over 54 years.
The family gives grateful appreciation to all her special friends and caregivers, Marcy Webb, Cathy Baldwin, Nikki Barnett, Medical Center Home Health, Hospice of West TN, Comfort Keepers, Dr. Phillip Coy, Dr. Patrick Teer, and Dr.Chima Oleru.
The family requests that any memorials be made to the Golden Agers Group at West Jackson Baptist Church, Dream Center of Jackson, Hospice of West TN. or the charity of your choice .
