Elizabeth was born in Jackson, TN on April 7, 1929 to the late Charles and Frances Finch Simpson. She was united in matrimony to James P. “Bill” Weir, and together they enjoyed 58 years of happy marriage. Both were longtime members of the former St. Andrew United Methodist Church and very active in the Order of the Eastern Star. Elizabeth was elected to several Eastern Star offices, including that of Tennessee Worthy Grand Matron. She also worked for many years at Sears and then as a hostess at George A. Smith and Sons Funeral Home. Elizabeth enjoyed many activities, including decorating, collecting (especially angels!), making pottery, preparing a grand Christmas, and perhaps most of all her little dogs and her friends.
In addition to her parents, Elizabeth was preceded in death by her husband, Bill Weir, and her brother, Billy Simpson.
Survivors include her two sons, Michael S. Weir and wife Bridget of Texas and Dr. Jerry P. Weir and wife Karen Elkins of Maryland; granddaughter, Emily Weir Nance and husband Andrew of Texas; and great grandson James Nance.
A funeral service to celebrate the life of Elizabeth Weir will be held on Wednesday, July 3, 2024 at 11 a.m. at the North Chapel of George A. Smith and Sons. Burial will follow in Ridgecrest Cemetery. There will be no visitation prior to the service.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Alexandria Place.
