Mr. Earl Hunt Marshall, age 95 of Jackson, passed away peacefully on July 5, 2022, in Franklin Tennessee, at Williamson County Medical Center. He had been living in Brentwood, Tennessee near his son and two of his grandchildren for the last 3 years.
Mr. Marshall was born on December 16, 1926, in Troy, TN, the youngest of 5 boys, to the late William Luther and Lena Douglas Marshall.
After graduation from High School in 1944, Earl was accepted and attended the University of Mississippi. Upon turning 18, at the end of 1944, he entered the US Army going thru basic training and becoming a paratrooper. At the end of the war, he was honorably discharged and returned to Ole Miss where he received his Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy degree. He later received his “Doctor of Pharmacy” designation from the Tennessee Pharmacy Association.
Upon graduation from Ole Miss in 1949, Earl was hired by Abbott Laboratories as a pharmaceutical representative. He met his wife of 63 years, Ann VanDyke Marshall, while she was a nurse at Baptist Hospital in Memphis, TN.
Mr. Marshall owned and operated several pharmacies in Jackson and West Tennessee including Henning Drug Store, Highland Pharmacy Mart (Lehnings), Hollywood Pharmacy Mart and several other pharmacy related businesses servicing nursing homes and other facilities.
Earl was a devoted husband and spent several years personally caring for his wife Ann after a stroke. They enjoyed bridge clubs, and both found support and many friendships thru First United Methodist Church of Jackson where they were members for over 50 years.
In addition to his parents, Earl was preceded in death by his wife, Ann Van Dyke Marshall; four brothers, Paul, Burney, Floyd, and Dale; and two sons, Robert Alan Marshall and Johnny Hunt Marshall.
He is survived by his son Joel Van Marshall (Tricia), eight grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren.
Funeral services for Earl will be held on Friday, July 22, 2022, at 12 Noon, in the North Chapel of George A Smith and Sons Funeral Home with the Rev. Dan Camp and Rev. Sky McCracken officiating. Interment will follow in Ridgecrest Cemetery. Visitation with the family will begin at 11 a.m., one hour prior to the funeral at 12 p.m.
Active Pallbearers to serve will be Adam Marshall, Drew Allan, Bobby Marshall, Don Edwards, Stan Perkins, Phillip Pickens, Bart Swift, Freddy Teague.
Honorary Pallbearers will be Dave Brillenz, Mathew Marshall, Ashley Tanner, Walter Finley, and Emerald Ridge Homeowners Association.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that memorials in Earl’s memory be directed to First United Methodist Church, 200 S. Church St., Jackson TN 38301.
