Doris was born in Waldron, Arkansas, on November 23, 1928, the eldest of four children. Her parents met and married in Waldron. The family migrated from Waldron, AR to Ceres, California. She lived her early years in Waldron and did not want to move to California.
Growing up in Ceres, California, she met and married Laman Newton Davis Sr. They had 4 children and she went back to school and became a Licensed Vocational Nurse. She always vowed she would return to Waldron. After her retirement from nursing, she did in fact move back to Waldron. She had her cousin build her a home on Highway 80 at the corner of Rebecca’s Road and Hwy 80, on her family property she purchased. . She loved Waldron and was devoted to the helping repair and improve the Greenridge community center in Waldron, TN. She worked tirelessly on the center, and on the voting board.
Doris moved to Jackson TN in 2006 to be closer to her sister and daughter. She attended Oakfield Baptist Church and made friends in the community. Doris was an avid quilter, gardener, bird lover, and she loved her little dog Ricco, who proceeded her in death. Doris had the best yard in Waldron and made her home in Jackson TN have the best yard in her new neighborhood.
Survivors include her sister, Georgianna Sims, sister in law, Audean Fuller, and her brother, Fred Killion (wife Colleen), children, Laman Newton Davis Jr. (wife Evelyn), Linda Jones ( husband, Chuck), Sharon Tollison (husband Ronnie), and Janice Shipman (husband William); grandchildren Derek Shipman (wife Natalie), Hilary Aviles (husband Saul), David Davis (wife Angie); John Lopez (wife Lisa); Laman Lopez, Danny Tollison, Kim Purvis & Staci Duncan, 15 great grandchildren and several cousins and nieces/nephews.
Doris was preceded in death by her husband, Laman Newton Davis, Sr., her parents, Dillion Killion, George and Roxie (Self) Fuller, and her brother Charles Fuller. Also by her good friends, Alvanue Davis, Willene Hutchens, Nadine Judy, Pearl and Roscoe Wells, and Catherine Carter.
Our thanks to the staff at West TN Healthcare, Morningside, and Maplewood who have shown such great care to Doris in her recent years of medical issues and needing assisted living and skilled nursing. Special thanks to her roommate at Maplewood, Ms. Lola Ursery.
Visitation will be Monday, February 16, 2015 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. at Martin Funeral Home, 101 West 4th Street, Waldron Arkansas, 72958. 479-637-2167. Funeral services will follow at 3 p.m. ( Burial will follow at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery,10708 E Highway 248, Waldron, AR 72958. Reception immediately following at the Greenridge Community Center right next to the cemetery.
