Sylvia Thornton was born August 23, 1945 to Fred Houston Ingram and Gladys Melton Ingram who preceded Sylvia in her death. She went home peacefully on August 26, 2016 after a brief illness at Mississippi Baptist Medical Center.
Sylvia was born in Greenwood, MS and was reared in Greenville, MS. She completed her last two years of high school in Jackson, MS. She was an honor graduate from the University of Southern Mississippi. For many years she served as the chief administrative assistant to the President of the State College Board in Jackson. She was a member of Meadow Grove Baptist Church in Brandon, MS and for many years she was a member of Daniel Memorial Baptist Church in Jackson, MS, having served on the administrative staff for a number of years. Sylvia was a compassionate caring person who loved children.
She is survived by her husband Tommy Douglas (Doug) Thornton of Brandon, MS; her sons Kyle Ingram Thornton (Timberly) of Hattiesburg, MS and Kelly Houston Thornton (Brittany) of Little Rock, AR; her brother Dr. Fred H. Ingram (Maridel) of Jackson, MS; her grandsons Cole Houston Thornton and Turner David Thornton of Little Rock, AR.
A funeral service will be held at Baldwin-Lee Funeral Home in Pearl, MS on Tuesday August 30 at 11:00 a.m. Visitation will be on Monday August 29, from 5-7 p.m. and for one hour before the service on Tuesday.
Memorials can be made to Lottie Moon Christmas offering at a Baptist Church or to the Baptist International Mission Board.
