Mrs. Hamernik was born moments before her twin sister Maxyne on January 16, 1942 in Brandon, MS to Preston and Dot Ware. She lived in the Jackson Metro area throughout life.
A graduate of Central High School in Jackson, cosmetology was her first career. While she loved her time as a hairdresser, her passion became nursing. A Licensed Practical Nurse, she treasured the time she spent taking care of her patients. She inspired her daughter Kelly to become a nurse. The nursing journey continued with Kelly’s daughter Brittany.
She enjoyed reading and spending time with her family.
She was proceeded in death by her husband Dr. Robert (Bob) Hamernik, her parents Preston and Dot Ware, her sister Jean Dahduh, and her brother-in-law Gus Norwood.
She is survived by her daughters Kim Waller (Scott) of Madison, MS; and Kelly LeMay of Bartlett, TN. Her grandchildren Shane Waller of Washington, DC, Brittany Bedard (Justin) of Arlington, TN., Chris LeMay of Collierville, TN, and Blake LeMay, of Sandusky, OH, Two great grandchildren Avery Bedard and Linley Bedard of Arlington, TN, her brother-in-law Pat Dahduh of Brandon, MS, and her sister Maxyne Norwood of Pensacola, FL. Her nieces Andrea Johnson (John) of Pensacola, FL , Natalie Odom (David of Covington, LA and Michelle Mikaloff (Rob) of De Soto, KS.
A visitation will be held for Prestyne on Saturday, November 23 at 10:00 AM followed by a pavilion service at 11:30 AM at Lakewood Funeral Home, 6011 Clinton Blvd., Jackson, MS.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in her name to the University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson, Mississippi or your favorite charity.
