Nedia Johnson was born August 10, 1928, in Simpson County, MS. She graduated from Mendenhall High School in 1946 and went on to attend Business College in Hinds County where she graduated in 1948. Nedia’s career in business included work in the field of Insurance as well as working for Deposit Guarantee Mortgage. In 1950, she married the love of life, Jefferson Bert (JB) Johnson. Nedia was a member of Westview Baptist Church in Jackson, MS. In her younger years, she enjoyed fishing, gardening, and spending time with family and friends.
Nedia was preceded in death by her parents, Johnny Thomas Craft and Leatha Elizabeth Dilmore Craft; husband, Jefferson Bert (JB) Johnson; and son, Stephen Douglas “Doug” Johnson.
She is survived by her brother, Truett Craft of Utica, MS; daughter-in-law, Caroll Johnson of Milton, FL; granddaughter, Christyl Akseraylian of Restertown, MD (Dico); great-granddaughter, Macie Akseraylian and great-grandson, DJ Akseraylian; and several nieces and nephews.
Nedia was a much-loved member of her neighborhood in Pearl, MS. She said, “God knew JB and I needed to move from Jackson. He led us to Pearl. After JB died, I thought I would have to move again, but because of my wonderful neighbors, I have been able to stay in my home.”
Nedia loved people and bonded with them deeply. Her own words sum up her life. “I love my family, and I love my neighbors. I pray that everyone I have touched will be brought closer to Jesus. I know the source of my love for others came from God, because He loved me first.” Truly, she lived the words of her favorite hymn, “Let Others See Jesus in You.”
