Our beloved father and husband Skipper left us suddenly on the afternoon of January 20, 2022 at age 75. Skipper was born on September 13, 1946 in Winston Salem, North Carolina and had lived in many states with his family before they settled in Aberdeen, Mississippi. Words cannot adequetly describe how much he was adored and loved. We thank our lucky stars that he was our husband and father. He was someone who was extraordinarily loyal and loving of his family and would do anything for them and the ones he held dear. No one could have asked for a better husband, father, son, brother, friend, or relative than him. He could always make you laugh and was always a joy to be around.
Skipper graduated from Aberdeen High School in 1964 and during his early years enjoyed hunting and fishing. He also enjoyed watching football his entire life. He graduated from Mississippi State with a degree in forestry in 1969 but was an avid Ole Miss fan. After graduation he was a forester for a brief period in Tishomingo County before serving in the national guard from the early to mid 70's. Skipper was a hard and dedicated worker. After moving to Jackson he worked at Crescent and later Hallmark Cleaners for 35 years before retiring. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Jackson where he met the love of his life Penny and they married in 1978 and was later a member of Alta Woods Baptist Church. It was the joy of a lifetime to see him pull in from work at the end of the day and to spend many joyous weekend and vacation moments with that are too numerous to count. Through the years he enjoyed traveling to the West and seeing the national parks and coastline, traveling to the mountains, taking pictures, reading about history, and had played some tennis at one point. He was always great at fixing things around the house and there were not too many projects that he could not do. He always said the greatest time he had was being with his family. Skipper was preceded in death by his beloved father Martin C. Goodman "Goody" Sr. and mother Helen B. Goodman "MaMa" and a special cat named Whiskers that he had for 15 years. He is survived by his loving wife of 43 years Penny, sons Kevin and Jason, and a brother Mike and sister Scottie. The greatest gift he gave was that of a wonderful father- son relationship that he shared through moments that were extra special and in his memory we hope others share the same. To our beloved Skipper the world was a better place because you were a part of it. We love you dearly and miss you.
