Born Dec. 28, 1927, in the Delta, Emmaline grew up in Tchula. She attended MSCW, where she met 2nd Lt. John Dale Ware, USAR. Upon graduation, they were married; she became a schoolteacher, and John became a platoon leader for the 2nd Infantry Division fighting in the Korean War.
Emmaline taught in several Mississippi communities throughout her long career: Coldwater, Laurel, Philadelphia, and finally, Jackson in 1968, where she taught at Key Elementary School in South Jackson until she retired in 1990.
She earned a master’s degree in art education at Mississippi College, was certified as a Master Educator, and was a member of the Mississippi Artist Guild. She is responsible for helping generations of Jackson children get a good start with their education.
Emmaline Ware has been an active Alta Woods Baptist church member since 1968.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Frederick and Joana Worrell, siblings Frederick Jr., Mary Francis, Margie, Malcolm, Miriam, husband John Dale Ware, and son John Dale Ware Jr.
She is survived by five grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, many nieces, nephews, cousins, her son and caregiver, James Richard Ware, and five inconsolable cats.
A visitation for Lola will be held Friday, September 8, 2023 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Lakewood Funeral Home, 6011 Clinton Blvd, Jackson, Mississippi 39209, followed by a funeral service at 11:00 AM. Graveside service 3:00 PM at Bezer Cemetery (Liberty Bpt Church) in Raleigh, MS.
