David Brents Sherer was born November 13, 1940 in Nashville, TN to David L. and Belle Frances Hite Sherer. After WW II, his family moved to Florida for several years, moving to Clinton, MS in 1955. Brents, as he was known to his family and high school friends, was very involved in school activities and was Captain of the football team, while Janet was the featured baton twirler in the band. Soon after graduation, they married and started their family.
The consummate entrepreneur, David founded Central Pipe Supply with his two partners, Morris Luke and Gene Powell in 1975. They grew the company to be one of the Top 100 privately owned businesses in the state per the Mississippi Business Journal. After retirement his entrepreneurial spirit led him to owning multiple rental properties, providing his antique cars with a driver for weddings and events, and developing a new subdivision in Clinton.
As a devoted Christian he exemplified his love for Christ in his daily life giving of his time and resources. He enjoyed serving as a Deacon, a Gideon, a member of various church committees and the choir. His hobbies included woodworking, metalworking, engine rebuilding, artisan restoration of antique cars to original specifications and souping-up hotrods. He enjoyed reading and learning about WWII, the Civil War, and considered himself a history buff. He loved to travel and visited many countries and state parks throughout the US. He competed in The Great Race Rally and the Chattanooga Challenge, driving his restored cars, aided only by a navigator, across the US, without the benefit of technology. Brents was proud of his time and achievements in the boy scouts, barely missing becoming an Eagle Scout because his family had to move before he was able to complete his last two badges. He spent many hours with the Antique Car Club of Jackson that his father helped found.
David is preceded in death by his wife, Janet Tullos Sherer; his parents; his two sisters, Wendy Bartley and LaBelle Copeland; his beloved in-laws, Sam and Carmen Evans; and his grandson, Joey Rhodes.
He is survived by his wife, Estelle Sherer; and his daughters, Sheriee Townsend (Mike), Renee Sherer, Carrie Sherer-Victor (Phil), and Jerri Sherer; and his brother Steve Sherer (Phyllis). He was blessed to have four grandchildren, Daniel Townsend (Jennifer), Matthew Townsend (Cortney), Ashley Russ Warren (Larry), and Georgia Lilian Adkins. He also had six great-grandchildren, Payton and Cole Townsend, Josie and Marshall Townsend, and Amilah and LJ Warren and numerous nieces and nephews. David was also considered a surrogate father and a mentor to many.
