Barry Daine Pride, 90 years old, passed away on August 29, 2023, at St. Catherine’s Village in Madison, Mississippi. Barry, Grandad, or BD to his close friends, was born on July 16, 1933 to James Lawson and Inez Clark Pride in Redwater, Texas. As the youngest of three boys, Barry spent his childhood and young adult days in the state of Texas.
After graduating High School, he obtained a bachelor’s degree in Geology from Southern Methodist University in 1954. On February 28th of that same year, he married the love of his life, Rilla Mae Rehkopf. Following his college graduation, Barry was commissioned as a First Lieutenant in the United States Air Force, where he served from 1954-1957. After an honorable discharge from the USAF, Barry and Rilla settled in Texas where he began a career in sales and started a family. In 1973, Barry, Rilla and family moved to Clinton, MS where he served as National Sales Manager for Cataphote Corporation, a division of Ferro Corporation, until his retirement in 1987. After retirement, he enjoyed working in the yard and was an integral part of the grandkid’s lives. Throughout his life, Barry was a family man and a committed member of the Presbyterian Church of America. He was a long-standing deacon at Westminster Presbyterian Church in Jackson, MS. In 1989, he was elected Chairman of the Relocation and Building Committee when the church sought to merge with Clinton Presbyterian and bought the current property on Clinton Raymond Road to construct a new church complex to facilitate the merger. The new church building was dedicated in 1991 as Providence Presbyterian Church of Clinton, Mississippi.
Barry is preceded in death by his parents, his brothers James H. Pride and Morris C Pride, and his son, Richard Daine Pride who is survived by wife, Maryjo Pride. He is survived by his loving wife; Rilla Rehkopf Pride, his children; Kent Pride (Tracy), Jeff Pride (Marietta), Diane Pride Smith (Kevin), his grandchildren; Matt Pride, Shelby Pride Myers (Jon), Jared Pride (Angel), Abigail Pride Hamilton (Meredith), Michael Pride, Jacob Pride (Ellie), Kennedy Ostoja, Claire Pride, Aimee Pride Brown (Charley), Clint Pride (Emily), Chandler Pride, JC Pride, Tyler Rosamond (Mallory), Magan Rosamond Adams (Zack), Jordan Smith (Graham) and numerous great-grandchildren.
