Ruth Mae Campbell was born to the union of Nathan Campbell and Susie Love in Kosciusko, Mississippi on August 7, 1926. She departed life on July 14, 2013 in Maryland. She was 86 years old. In her lifetime, she was the devoted wife of Nathaniel Brown who preceded her in death January 6, 2011. From their marriage of 62 years, they raised daughters Shirley Ruth Brown (deceased April 23, 2012, Sun Prairie, WI.), Lula Pearl Brown Powell of Atlanta, GA., and Cynthia Ann Brown LaVeist of Columbia MD. The grandchildren of Ruth and Nathaniel Brown are DeQuinn Nathaniel Powell and wife Felita of Ann Arbor, MI., Naomi LaVeist of Columbia, MD.; great grandchildren are Alicia Powell of Pontiac, MI., DeAndrew Powell of Ann Arbor, MI., and great, great grandchild Aubrey Powell Manley of Pontiac, MI.Ruth family members also included her beloved sisters and brother. They are Lou Porter, Lena Reynolds, Juanita Thornton, Venola Perteet, Zenola Darby, deceased sister Jean Thornton of Michigan, and a brother L.C. Campbell of Mississippi. Ruth was the beloved sister in law of Laura Frizell, Tilda Mae Rimmer, and deceased Fannie Anderson, deceased Major Brown of Mississippi, deceased Robert Brown of Michigan, deceased Pearl Evans of Illinois. She is also survived by a host of nieces, nephews, and relatives. Ruth and Nathaniel were members of Second Baptist Church for many years while living in Jackson, Michigan. They were married by the Reverend Amos Polk Williams in 1949. They confessed their faith in Jesus Christ at a young age growing up in Mississippi. In addition to being a devoted wife and mother, Ruth was known in her community for her excellent cooking, participation in church activities and helping people. She will be missed by all friends and family. The family wishes to express their sincere appreciation and gratitude for the condolences and many acts of kindness during their time of bereavement. May you find peace and comfort in Jesus Christ, the Lord and Savior. A memorial service will be held at the Woodland Cemetery Chapel, Saturday October 26, 2013 at 11:00 A.M.
