Richard Philip Spencer, 69, passed away on Friday, July 21st, 2023 in his home, surrounded by his family, in Jackson, MI. We honor the life of an extraordinary man, husband, father, granddad, uncle, and brother. Richard had a long and successful career in food production research and development in Canada and the United States. He worked for prominent companies such as Canada Bread, Pillsbury, General Mills, and Dawn Food Products. His primary interest, throughout his career, was in developing innovative new food products. Many of his developments went on to win product of the year awards. Richard's success largely came from his extensive education. He received a Bachelor of Science, with a major in Chemistry, from Queens University in Ontario, Canada. Richard continued his education through the University of Toronto, receiving an MBA. Richard found joy in traveling around the world, off the beaten path, discovering beautiful cultures and places with his wife. Throughout his life he enjoyed relaxing with a good book or challenging his mind with cryptic crossword puzzles. After retirement Richard found passion in running and finished four marathons, including the prestigious Boston Marathon. He ran half marathons with each of his children. But what Richard will be remembered for most was the family he created and established with his loving wife, Lorraine Spencer. He is survived by his wife, three children, four grandchildren, his brother and sister, and two nieces and a nephew. At Richard's request, his family will have a private celebration in his honor, on Lake Michigan. The family has requested no flowers or cards but if you choose to honor Richard's life you can donate to Pancreatic Cancer Society or the book charity, Worldreader, at worldreader.org.
