On Sunday, March 13, 2022 an extraordinary man, 87 year old Lee Roy Brown’s spirit transitioned from our physical world to the spiritual world. That day Lee Roy had gone about his normal routine doing what he loved most; driving out to the country to feed his chickens and to check on the farm. Later that evening on his drive back to Jackson, The Lord called Lee Roy Brown home.
Lee Roy was born on June 12, 1934 to the late Wes and Dorothy (DeNard) Brown in Pounding Mill, Virginia. He was the second of six children. Lee Roy accepted Christ as his savior at an early age. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife and mother of his children Ruth (Moore) Brown Hurd, and wife Rose Marie Rimson-Brown, brother James “JD” Brown, two sisters, Brenda Boxley and Betty Goff, two sons Anthony Davis and James Steven Brown, daughter Mona Hurd and grand-daughter Kyshana Thomas.
Lee Roy was educated in Tazewell, VA where he graduated Hight School and played sports. In 1956 Lee Roy and his young family moved to Jackson, Michigan to work at Clark Equipment. He was employed there for over 35 years. Lee Roy earned his Associate Degree from Jackson Community College in Electrical Technology. He was a master welder, electrician, pipefitter, and a genuine craftsman. With the assistance of his skilled family and friends he built the country home known as the farm. After retirement Lee Roy drove semi-trucks and worked at Michigan International Speedway in “pit roll”.
Lee Roy loved the outdoors, hunting, building small engines and model airplanes, driving his tractors, and caring for his animals. He had a passion for music and at one time was a member of the Lily Baptist Broadcast choir. He was also a member of the First Church of God in Christ Choir. He visited the sick and shut-in and was a dedicated volunteer for the Red Cross. Lee Roy traveled extensively and was always dressed “to the nines”. You could always count on Lee Roy to make every milestone event especially the Tazewell Reunions, and Mardi Gras. Lee Roy was a private quiet man that was always there when needed or called upon.
He leaves to cherish precious memories four children, Cathy Brown of Jackson, Lee Roy Brown, Jr. of Jackson, Rebecca Brown-Murray of Colorado, and Robert (Annalese) Hurd, of Jackson; two sisters Ethel “Pumpkin” Hollinghead of Ohio and Virginia Mullines of WV, eleven grandchildren; fourteen great grandchildren; seven great-great grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews, and a loving family and friends.
A Homegoing Celebration will be held at Lily Missionary Baptist Church (1117 W.G. Wade Drive Jackson, MI. 49201) on Thursday, March 24, 2022 at 12:00 noon. The family will receive friends for visitation at Burden & Patience-Montgomery Funeral Home (1806 E. Michigan Ave Jackson, MI. 49202) on Wednesday evening from 4:00 until 7:00 p.m. Mr. Brown will be laid to rest at Woodland Cemetery.
