Of Jackson, MI passed away April 4, 2021 at the age of 98. Dot was born in Chicago, IL on June 15, 1922 to parents John and Elvena Frank. She graduated in the summer of 1940 from Springport High School and then attended Cleary Business College. She married James Martin in Jackson on March 15, 1952. In 1943, Dorothy moved to the Ann Arbor area to help in the war effort, working at Willow Run Airport building air planes. After the war, she finished her schooling at Cleary Business College. She worked for Michigan Milk Producers for 18 years and then worked in Jackson at Aeroquip Corporation for 36 years retiring as head of accounting and Accounts payable. Dorothy was a member of the Richard F. Smith Post #29 of the American Legion for 77 years, serving on numerous committees and holding many offices in Post #29, in the district and department levels. She most notably served as unit secretary for 30 years. Dorothy was a mentor to all at the Richard F. Smith Post. She was also active at the state level of the American Legion, holding many chairmanships. Dorothy was also the director of the American Legion Auxiliary Girl's State Program for 5 years. Dorothy was also a member of the 8/40 Salon 501 and volunteered at the CBOC-VA Clinic in Jackson. She was a director of Jackson/Hillsdale Chapter of the American Red Cross and volunteered for blood drives for the cause. Dorothy enjoyed travel and had visited all 50 states, Hong Kong, England and Denmark. Dorothy is survived by her children Barbara and Barry, grandson Jerry Martin, and great-granddaughter Sofia. Per her wishes cremation has been chosen with a graveside service to be held on Friday, May 14, 2021 at 1:00 pm at Hillcrest Memorial Park and laid to rest next to her husband.
