Of Jackson, passed away on Saturday, May 15, 2021 at the age of 95. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, James E. Bell; daughter, Linda Jones and six siblings. She is survived by her three daughters, Sandra Bell, Deborah Bell and Jamme (Mark) Fater; four grandchildren, Tammy Jones, Dave (Kari) Jones, Andrea Zink and Amber Fater; seven great grandchildren and several great-great grandchildren. As well as many nieces, nephews, loving family members and friends. Betty was one of seven children born to George and Mary (Mathias) Smith in Jackson, Michigan on October 15, 1925. She was a graduate of Jackson High School. She was later employed with Hayes-Albion/Harvard Industries as a bookkeeper and accountant until her retirement. Betty then worked at Kohl’s Department Store until she retired again at the age of 80. Betty was a wonderful wife, mother and grandmother. There wasn’t anything she wouldn’t do to make sure her family was well-fed, taken care of and loved. She loved to sew, often making her daughters’ clothes and even garments for their dolls when they were younger. Betty was a proud homemaker who often sang as she cleaned house or cooked meals. She also loved to bake. Besides cookies, cakes and pies, she made the most delicious cinnamon pecan rolls! If she wasn’t working inside, Betty loved the outdoors. She took pride in her yardwork. She loved to mow the lawn and plant flowers. She and her family also loved to camp, traveling throughout Michigan and most of the States in the Midwest. Upon their retirement, Betty and her husband also loved traveling with several close friends to Las Vegas and Texas. There will be a service to honor her life at Patience-Montgomery Funeral Home (406 First Street Jackson, 49201) on Thursday, May 20, 2021 at 1:30 p.m. with Pastor Bart Hall officiating. The family will receive friends for visitation on Wednesday from 4:00 until 7:00 p.m. Mrs. Bell will be laid to rest beside her husband at Hillcrest Memorial Park. Memorial contributions in her name may be made to Henry Ford Allegiance Hospice Home.
